Why Did I Choose This Topic?
There are many reasons why I choose this topic. First off, I love watching the Olympics. I'm very interested in them. I enjoy playing sports as well as watching them. I love sports in general. I liked the fact that this event happened in the summer olympics because I like summer sports more than I do winter sports. I also wanted to do this topic because I like learning about sports and the history of sports. This is why I choose this topic.
Interesting Facts!
There are many interesting facts about this event. First, the motto was "the Happy Games". A blue solar logo known as "the 'bright sun'" was the emblem. This event is called the Munich Massacre. Everything happened within eighteen hours. Due to this event, security during the 1976 winter olympics was a lot better. This event had a Oscar winning documentary called One Day In September. Those are some interesting facts about the Munich Massacre.
Why Is This Important?
This event is important for a few reasons. First off, it was a huge event. It happened because the terrorists wanted their people to be released from the prisons. The olympics were a main event during this time. It was also a world wide event. Many countries were there. They were also all in danger. The Olympics happen every four years. It is still a world wide event today. This has impacted the world today because now, security is much better.
When and Where Did This Happen?
This event occured in Munich, Germany. The Olympics were held in the Olympic Stadium. The Olympics started on August 26th. They ended on September 11th 1972. On September Fifth, 1972, the devestating massacre occured. It all happened at 4:30 a.m. The terrorists climbed the fences. Then entered the room of the athletes. At five a.m. was when the first three athletes were killed.
What Happened?
In 1972, eleven Israeli athletes were captured and held hostage by Palestinian terrorists. At five a.m., the terrorists knocked on the door of the athletes. The coach answered the door. Two athletes tried to protect the other athletes while they escaped. Three were quickly killed in the apartment. The other nine were soon captured and killed by the Palestinian terrorists. Then, five of the eight terrorists were killed. The olympics were then put on hold. Then, the international olympic committee president said the games had to continue. The Germans believed that this event occured as a post to World War II.

Who Was Involved?
During the Summer Olympics in 1972, five Palestinian terrorists, climbed over the fence to get into the Olympic Village. They were part of the Black September organization. After successfully making it over, they met up with three other terrorists. They were able to get in through the entrance with credentials. Within twenty-four hours, the terrorists had killed a total of eleven people. The eleven people were Israeli athletes. They were held hostage in their apartment. Two men were killed in there. The rest were later killed.
